Standards for Donated Computer Hardware
November 2005
While the intentions of individuals and organizations who wish to donate computer hardware to the district are appreciated, the district must consider the total cost of ownership of donated items. The cost for modifications and adaptations that must take place before donated hardware is useful for instruction will require expenditure of unbudgeted funds. Therefore, the following guidelines are the minimum for use in the district:
Processor
Pentium IV, 1.4 GHz
G4, 900 MHz
Hard Drive
20 GB
Memory
512 MB
CD drive
24X
Network Interface Card
10/100
Monitor
15-inch SVGA
Keyboard
Standard 101 key with PS2 or USB connector
Mouse
Two-button with PS2 or USB connector
Sound Card
Operating System
Windows XP Professional
Macintosh 10.2 or later
A license certificate must accompany donated computers which have an operating system present and Microsoft Office already installed. If license cannot be furnished, both software packages can be purchased through the district. Purchase of standard software packages will be the responsibility of the school/department receiving the donation.
