Meningitis Immunization

Although meningococcal disease is rare, adolescents and young adults are at increased risk. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that meningococcal disease rates rise in the ages of 15 to 24 years. Of those who survive, up to one in five will suffer from permanent disabilities such as limb amputation, severe scarring, brain damage and hearing loss.

To educate students and their parents about this disease, the schools have been asked to relay information about this disease and the immunizations that can prevent many types of meningococcal disease. Please read information in English or Spanish or contact the school nurse for more information.
