REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
Monday, December 3, 2007

The Putnam City Schools Board of Education of Independent School District No. One of Oklahoma County, State of Oklahoma, met in regular session Monday, December 3, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. in the Board room at the Administration Building, 5401 NW 40th, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The agenda and meeting notice were posted on Friday, November 30th, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. in accordance with 25 O.S. § 311.

Members present: Julie Jenison, president; Gail LoPresto, vice-president; Sue Sullivan, Melinda Bookout, and Jerry Cramer, members; Superintendent Dr. Jim Capps; Debbie Baldwin, clerk; and others.

ITEM #1 - Inspirational Message, Moment of Silence, and Pledge of Allegiance – Lee roland.

Lee Roland, Principal at Tulakes Elementary, led in the Inspirational Message, Moment of Silence, and Pledge of Allegiance.

ITEM  #2 – presentation of golden apple awards – linda buxton.

Linda Buxton, chairperson for the Golden Apple Awards committee, along with Putnam City Foundation Director Caroline Gist, and other Foundation members presented the Fall, 2007 Golden Apple Awards. Receiving the awards were Lynette Thompson, principal at Western Oaks Middle School; Gloria Rangel, a bus driver; Angela Lee, an English teacher at Putnam City North; Joy Fisher, a volunteer at Putnam City West High School; and Joy Bjerk, an Algebra teacher at Putnam City High School. Each recipient was presented an engraved brass apple and a check for $200.00. Contributions were provided by the Putnam City Schools Foundation.

ITEM  #3 – PUBLIC participation.

There was none.

ITEM  #4 – Consent Agenda: All of the following items, which concern reports and items of a routinE nature normally approved at board meetings, will be approved by one vote unless any board member desires to have a separate vote on any or all of these items. The CONSENT CONSISTS of the discussion, consideration, and approval of the following items:

f. Renewal of district-wide subscription for World Book Online. ($7,485.40 from Project 32-190)

ITEM #6 - Consideration of and vote on motion to approve purchase order numbers 808129009 and 808355705 for Triangle a & e.

Melinda Bookout made a motion to approve purchase order numbers 808129009 and 808355705 for Triangle A & E. Sue Sullivan seconded the motion. Vote: Sullivan, aye; Cramer, aye; Bookout, aye; LoPresto, abstain; Jenison, aye.

ITEM #7 - Consideration of and vote on motion to approve changes to district policy ef – attendance.

Gail LoPresto made a motion to approve changes to District Policy EF – Attendance. Jerry Cramer seconded the motion. Vote: Sullivan, aye; Cramer, aye; Bookout, aye; LoPresto, aye; Jenison, aye.

ITEM #8 – CONSIDERATION OF AND vote on motion to approve the course description guide for 2008-09.

Julie Jenison said to remove Item #8. Dr. Capps said the item will be on the agenda, January 10, 2008.

ITEM #9 – CONSIDERATION OF AND VOTE ON MOTION TO APPROVE CHANGE ORDER #4 SUBMITTED BY DOAN CONSTRUCTION FOR THE PUTNAM CITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER AND CHILD NUTRITION OFFICES AT THE PUTNAM CITY CENTER. ($310.00 FROM 21-277)

Gail LoPresto made a motion to approve Change Order #4 submitted by Doan Construction for the Putnam City Professional Development Center and Child Nutrition Offices at the Putnam City Center. Sue Sullivan seconded the motion. Vote: Sullivan, aye; Cramer, aye; Bookout, aye; LoPresto, aye; Jenison, aye.

ITEM #10 – CONSIDERATION OF AND VOTE ON MOTION TO APPROVE AGREEMENT WITH PENN SQUARE MALL FOR STUDENT HOLIDAY SEASON PERFORMANCES.

Melinda Bookout made a motion to approve the agreement with Penn Square Mall for student holiday season performances. Gail LoPresto seconded the motion. Vote: Sullivan, aye; Cramer, aye; Bookout, aye; LoPresto, aye; Jenison, aye.

ITEM #11 – SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT.

· Congratulations to Putnam City North’s 2006-2007 editors and staff of the Panther Tracks "Your Life, Your Book" yearbook. At the recent fall convention of the Oklahoma Interscholastic Press Association, the yearbook received highest honors and was named All-Oklahoman. Putnam City West’s yearbook earned an "honors" designation, and district students earned individual first place, second place, third place and honorable mention awards in 32 categories.

ITEM #12 – COMMENTS BY BOARD MEMBERS.

Sue Sullivan thanked the Putnam City Foundation for sponsoring the Golden Apple Awards and congratulated the recipients. She thanked Dr. Melani Mouse and Sue Kuntze for the lists of school holiday events and said she is looking forward to attending events. Mrs. Sullivan wished everyone a blessed Christmas.

Jerry Cramer thanked Lee Roland for his uplifting message. He congratulated all the Golden Apple Award recipients. He thanked Joy Fisher, a Golden Apple recipient, for providing apple pie to board members. He said he hopes everyone enjoys the holiday season and time off.

Melinda Bookout said she appreciated Lee Roland’s singing as his inspirational message. She thanked the Foundation for sponsoring the Golden Apple Awards and congratulated the recipients. She said she is looking forward to attending school holiday events. She told the audience to breathe, smile, enjoy, touch lives, and make a difference.

Gail LoPresto thanked Lee Roland for his inspirational singing. She thanked the Putnam City Foundation for providing the Golden Apple Awards. She congratulated all Golden Apple Award winners and thanked Joy Fisher for helping her originally become involved in district schools. Mrs. LoPresto wished everyone a happy holiday season.

Julie Jenison congratulated the Golden Apple Award winners and the Foundation for providing the awards. She said we have a wonderful Foundation who is very involved in schools. Mrs. Jenison thanked Lee Roland for his inspirational singing. She wished everyone a very merry Christmas.

Addition to Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Capps said he also wanted to say thanks to Mickey Wilson for giving CPR to the student at Harvest Hills who quit breathing. Dr. Capps said his quick action probably saved the young man’s life.

ITEM #13 – Consideration of and vote on motion FOR NEW BUSINESS.

There was no new business.

ITEM #14 – CONSIDERATION OF AND VOTE ON MOTION TO ADJOURN.
