Meal Cards

Meal Card System

A computerized cashiering system is used for all students in the cafeteria. This meal card system allows for faster meal lines and no need for cash each day as meals may be paid for in advance.

All students who prepay for their meals (full and reduced-priced) and those who qualify for free or reduced-priced meals will receive a bar-coded meal card. Each card is identical. Only the computer, which reads the bar code, can distinguish the difference between a paid student, a reduced-price student or a free student. The status of a free or reduced-priced student is required by law to be kept in total confidence and only the cafeteria manager and assistant manager know this status.

To Open an Account
Students should bring check or cash to the cafeteria manager before classes any school day. Checks should be payable to the school cafeteria and should list the student’s ID number if known. Monies deposited in a student’s account may be used to purchase meals.

Additional ala-carte items such as juice, extra milk, fresh fruit, bagels, etc. are available at some schools for purchase. These items may be purchased with cash or by use of a cash account balance prepaid similar to meals.

Parental restriction of funds to meals only can be indicated on the memo section of the check. If money preference is not designated on check, all elementary students’ monies will be put in a cash account only. Middle school and high school students will be allowed to designate the money for meals or cash account.

Use and Replacement of Meal Cards
Elementary school cards are kept in the classroom by the teacher and are handed out daily to students. Middle and high school students are responsible for their meal cards daily. They need to keep their cards safe in a wallet or purse and have it out and ready at the register after making meal selections.

Elementary School
If a card is damaged or lost, it must be replaced. Replacement cards will cost $1 each and must be paid for in advance.

Middle and High School
If a card is damaged, lost or stolen, the student should inform the cafeteria manager immediately to prevent unauthorized use. Replacement cards are $1 each and must be paid for in advance. If a student’s card is lost or left at home, the student should go to the cafeteria manager before 10 a.m. and a slip allowing use of the account will be issued with proper identification. This is allowed at least three times. Replacement cards are made regularly and will be issued approximately one week following payment
