Few Putnam City schools were built in a time when computers were used in classrooms. As a result, classrooms are typically equipped with just two electrical outlets, and as many as three to five classrooms may be on the same circuit.
In today’s age of technology, each classroom has at least one computer and one monitor, and often a printer as well, filling three of four places in which something may be plugged in. Add to the classroom other common technology such as scanners, speakers, overhead projectors, additional computers and occasionally used CD players and television/DVD players, and it’s impossible to plug them in at one time. In addition, because three to five classrooms are on the same circuit, breakers are too often tripped.
These funds would enable the district to begin adding outlets and circuits in classrooms of older school buildings, enabling teachers and students to have uninterrupted use of educational technology.
