New School Furniture
These funds would pay for purchase of furniture at district schools. As needed, schools will be able to replace student desks or chairs, reading tables, cafeteria tables, art tables and more.
Schools take good care of school furniture and use it for a long time. The district repairs a lot of furniture because it’s less expensive and simply makes more sense to put a new glide on the leg of a chair than to replace the chair.
However, everything wears out in time. Students slide into classroom chairs thousands of times a year, year after year. Over time some chairs may become damaged when they are repeatedly moved or stacked and unstacked. In time, seats may become cracked or broken. Chairs may develop nicks or points with sharp edges that can scrape students. Desks and chairs may become scratched, cracked or gouged by student use and accidents.
If desks and tables are sound and safe, they’re used. But when they are broken, or are a safety hazard, they need to be replaced. This item allows for replacement of furniture on an as-needed basis.
